Mumbo Sauce from Buffalo, nY

“anyone can do wings but if you don’t have the mumbo sauce, you ain’t got anything”

- John Young

The Original Chicken Wing Sauce That Started It All

John Young was Buffalo's first chicken wing restauranteur, opening Wings N' Things in 1961 on Jefferson Avenue. He would go on to open several soul food establishments throughout Buffalo and beyond – but is best remembered for his trademark mumbo sauce.

Young was born in Stockton, Alabama, in 1934, and moved to Buffalo, with his wife Elizabeth Christine, and his three children. Beyond his business ventures, Young was involved in the East Side community, founding a youth program and a soul food processing plant.

In 2023 Lina, John's daughter, cofounded John Young's Original to keep her dad's memory alive. Discover more about our story on our About page.
